A TOSS OF LIFE

What question comes to mind first when you hear the word ‘toss’. As described by Cambridge Dictionary, ‘toss’ means to throw a coin up into the air and guess which side will be facing up or down, as a way of making a decision’. Let’s briefly look at ‘sides’ before even speaking of ‘decisions’. Taking life as a coin, a tossed one precisely; we never can tell what side of life we will get even at our various best moments, not to even speak of taking a decision. Following the general saying that ‘life is not fair’, further confirms the fact that there are purely two sides to life that goes a long way in showing what an individual is and would become.

The things one expect, one does not always get from life which often becomes frustrating and disappointing but what can one do aside moving on. One has to see whatever side of life one gets as an opportunity and take great advantage of it. Say that a beautiful lady down your street that you’ve been admiring for so long finally walks into your compound, you got talking and exchanged contacts, if after all your affectionate signs and even oral confession of your feelings she doesn’t show interest, life itself requires that you move on and find love somewhere else. You cannot always get what you want in life so you have to be prepared, always like an Eagle ‘expect anything, anytime’. As it is to some that life gives them reason to always be happy and joyous, so it is to others to always be sad and dejected; these are the things that makes it worth living, not minding what life[tomorrow] brings or what we should expect.

Eleanor Roosevelt in one of his quotes says, ‘if life were predictable it would cease to be life, and be without flavour’ also, one of America’s Essayist, poet and philosopher, Ralph Waldo Emerson simply put that ‘life is an experiment. The more you make the better’. Simply draw from this that first, according to Eleanor, if anyone could easily and perfectly forecast which side of coin[life] one would get, then there would be no essence to life indeed, and secondly, if one has not tasted, witnessed or experienced either of life’s’ at one stage of one’s life or the other then we can’t well be who we all want to be.

The aim should not only be to survive, but also to thrive in whatever situation life presents to us; and fight it with passion, humour and in style till we get that comfortability we require in life.

Let’s resolve today’s episode with Stephen Hawking’s quote about life that ‘however difficult life may seem, always do something you can do and succeed at.’ We are set to look at ‘decision making’ the coin in our next phase.

Life won’t always give you what you want so ALWAYS find a motivation for yourself, never let anything take away your happiness, enjoy life to the fullest. ‘this life no just balance’.
